Fleet Life Extension

One of the biggest challenges faced by the shipping industry is what to do with old ships that are still in operation?  New ships can be built with propulsion systems for cleaner, greener fuel systems, but how can the emissions be reduced from old vessels that will no longer be compliant to pollution controls?  There is a clear opportunity for bridging technologies that allow existing systems and engines to be utilised more efficiently. This can avoid short-term scrappage and its associated environmental and economic burdens.

The overall objective is to convert bunker oil to hydrogen for use in fuel cell drive, avoiding local emissions , and allowing in-shore mobility thereby avoiding the need to decommission current fuel infrastructure on-board.
