Two Placement Students Joins ZEM from the University of St. Andrews
Updated: Aug 8
ZEM Fuel Systems is delighted to welcome new placement students Alex Garner and Alice Grossman from the School of Chemistry at the University of St Andrews. Alex and Alice will be working with our technical team. ZEM Fuel Systems is delighted to be providing growth opportunities for young scientists.
Alex first comments were: “I am delighted to start my placement as a Technologist at ZEM Fuel Systems. Working with a team passionate about finding engineering solutions for decarbonising the maritime sector aligns with my passion of pursuing global sustainability.
I am incredibly excited for the next few months and hope to gain great experience. In addition, I am keen to contribute towards the company’s aim of being a world leader in fuel cells solutions contributing to a zero emissions marine environment.”
Alice added: “I am incredibly excited to be starting my placement at ZEM Fuel Systems this year. I will be working with the incredible team in Dundee to work towards a more sustainable future for the maritime industry by engineering direct ammonia fuel cells (DAFCs). The cells utilise ammonia, a carbon free gas with high hydrogen content and high volumetric energy density, therefore presenting an exciting potential as an energy vector.
With ZEM, I will be involved in materials processing, characterising fuel cells, and assembling cell components to make functional DAFCs. This placement will harness me with essential lab techniques and functional research environment, as well as support in developing my knowledge of alternative green fuels, an area I hope to pursue in my Masters project. I am honoured to be collaborating on projects at the forefront of sustainable innovation, and can’t wait to see what the next year has in store for me.”
ZEM Fuel Systems is passionate and committed to support future scientists.
